As well as going out to dinner, how better to celebrate our year as Venturers than go on a camp! Despite the questionable weather, we had lots of fun playing cards (literally for hours!), joking around, exploring, and, of course, lighting campfires and roasting marshmallows.
The Venturers decided to celebrate their last night of 2016 by going out to a buffet dinner at the James Cook Hotel restaurant. Christmas hats, crackers, and jokes were shared and our leader Terry discovered the joys of taking ‘selfies’
Yesterday, the Endeavour Venturers made their way to Newtown for a very important cause. They gallantly lay down and donated their blood at the Wellington Donor Centre to save the lives of people in need! If you want to help out and donate like the Venturers did, see the NZ blood website; http://www.nzblood.co.nz/
Last Thursday, the Venturers were taught about how to defend them selves from street attacks. We learnt about and tried various methods, including grips, blocks, attacks, and weapons. With laughter, failure, and success, we can now say that we know at least the basics. Better watch out!
Always time to be fabulous
On Tuesday night, our venturers attended a Wellington Zone Venturer event called the McFormal. This event requires attendees to dress up in formal dress, and go out to dinner at the most posh restaurant of them all; McDonald’s. This was the biggest McFormal yet, and the venturers can’t wait for the next one!
The venturers spent a wonderful evening ice skating at a picturesque rink. Those who weren’t struggling to stay upright, were showing off their moves, putting a nice end to winter.
The Venturers got given a set of things to make with lego. In two groups, they competed to finish their creations first and to the best of their abilities. Here we see the feature items of the night: “Casa de Pan” and “Casa de sol”
O Thursday night, the Venturers had a cooking challenge night! We were split into two groups and one group had to make anzac biscuits, the other stuffed peppers. The most efficient team won! A fun time was had by all, and the food turned out deliciously!
Three of our Venturers just came back from an amazing weekend up at Kaitoke, taking part in the Velocity course. Velocity is a course which all Venturers are encouraged to take, and it teaches them about how their unit works, what makes a good team, the importance of communication, and many other important skills. Not only was it useful, but all who attended had a fabulous time, and they are all keen to go on the next course, Cooksey, next year.
Venturers doing a BBQ fundraiser to help get some of us to the jamboree at the end of the year as Youth Service Team. Hopefully more BBQs this term, so keep your eyes out when you’re at Bunnings!
