Pride, prejudice and pots of cash

Gillian reports:
73 made it along to our private showing of Pride and Prejudice last Friday. The Provisional fundraising figure from tickets and the raffle is $1356.

People has a great time – they thought the show was very well acted and entertaining and they commented on the hospitality including all the wonderful home baking by the scouts (and a few parents).

We had two very happy raffle winners who picked up wonderful packs containing movie or theatre tickets, wine, coffee/tea packs and more.

A huge thanks to our sponsors and particularly Warrick McCluskey from Tommy’s real estate who gave a cash donation and wine.

All the Scouts in uniform looked very smart – and the leaders were in their flash civvies looking very glamourous.

(Note: big thanks to co-organiser Jenny and all who bought and sold tickets, baked and made sandwiches or otherwise helped out.)

Surgery, sticks and silence

Another typical night at Brooklyn Cubs…

Richard demonstrated his recent double hip-operation courtesy of the back-end of a pig, some latex gloves and a power saw.  Watching was optional, but almost all Cubs were agog.

Donald introduced a new game using some sticks.

And we even got everyone to be absolutely silent at the end of the evening.  I know it’s unbelievable – but there genuinely was absolute silence 🙂

pics: The old toilet block gets demolished

It was a bit of a surprise to turn up at the Hall today for a meeting on the next phase of the rejuvenation project to find the old boys toilet block between us and the community centre being demolished.  Some pics below for posterity.

Chris is following up with the contractors to see if there is an opportunity to create a little flat space for us.  The land is Council-owned, so any discussions on use would have to be held with them.
