Potato canons, water fights and pioneering

… just a few of the activities the intrepid Cub section will be undertaking this term!

It’s action- and fun-packed, but also includes a solid base of scouting skills.  We are aligning with the “water” theme of the national curriculum with water games, beach trips and pool parties.  There are a few weekend activities too.

Badges have in increased focus this term also: choose from the selection of sheets available from Duane or Richard (I’ll get them online soon!).  Make sure your cub has filled in the ‘completed badges’ book in the Hall so that they don’t miss out on Badge Awards night this term.

HRH Duchess of Cambridge

Don’t expect to see her helping with the Brooklyn Cubs and Keas anytime soon, but Kate Middleton – or HRH the Duchess of Cambridge – has become Scouting’s newest volunteer and will help at local cub packs and beaver colonies (equivalent to Keas).

The Duchess, who joins 66,000 girls and 40,000 female leaders in Scouting, will help out at groups close to where she lives.

In Brooklyn, we are warmly welcoming adult volunteers who want to get involved – be it for one night a term, or more regularly.  It all helps. To be a part of Brooklyn Scouts contact one of our great leaders.

Here’s Chief Scout Bear Grylls talking about the value of all volunteers for making scouting a quality, vital experience for young people today.

Cub camp: 19-21 November

The Cubs went to Brookfield for a 2-day camp under canvas last weekend and had a wonderful time.  Milo and a biscuit got everyone settled around 10pm on the Friday after some great work pitching all the tents.

Saturday was a huuuugggee day: up at 05:30 [not by choice for the leaders and adults!] and then the Confidence Course; Flying Fox; lunch; canoes and rafting; swimming pool; free play; dinner; campfire; and then back for toasted marshmallows at the tents.  Not surprisingly, everyone went to bed a bit earlier…

… and got up a bit later to on Sunday.  Lots of free play, a walk up the hill following the course that the Bog Run participants were going to be taking later in the day.  And then watching and cheering on all the runners as they dove into the drainage ditch alongside our camp was fun.

Back to the Scout Hall by around 2pm – muddy, tired, happy.

Big thanks to the Scouts who came up for Saturday and Sunday and for Venturers Henry and [G] who joined and helped out.
