New poster: Homework for real life…

The sharp-eyed amongst you may have noticed our new poster out in the wild in Brooklyn and surroundings areas.  It features our Cubs, Scouts and parents, along with Chief Scout and adventurer, Bear Grylls.

We could always do with greater coverage and it’d be great to get your help.  Maybe you could print one-off and put it up at work? Or get one in your classroom / school notice board?

We have a few print outs left, so leave a comment below or get in touch with a committee member if you’d like one.

National Mudslide day pictures

UPDATED: With pictures from Karori too

Well…. it was more of a waterslide than a mudslide (which made the car journey home a bit cleaner).  The Venturers joined their associates in Paparangi to help setup the slide the night before, some even sleeping in the adjacent Scout Hall to keep an eye on things (now that’s dedication!).

Shortly after 10am on the day, the action got underway after Brooklyn did a good deed by helping to get the pump sucking water properly.

There was also a contingent of cubs and scouts at the Karori waterslide for the 2-4pm slot at Ian Galloway park – a bit of a longer wait on this one due to its popularity – but at least as much.

It was fantastic to have a nice turnout across the Group, with cubs, scouts, venturers and leaders all represented…

… and have the bruises to prove it was a good activity!

Its National Mudslide day!

Woo hoo!  It’s National Mudslide Day! It is to be held this Saturday 25th February, thats this Saturday (tomorrow)

There are two being held in our Zone

  1. Paparangi Scouts , Mark Avenue, Paparangi – Time 10.00 am – 2.00 pm
  2. Karori Scouts, Ian Galloway Park, Seaforth Terrace, Karori, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm

At both venues, sausages and drinks will be on sale at $1.50 each

Wear clothes they do not mind getting wet and bring a towel (although it is called a MudSlide it is actually usually a water slide – so your car won’t suffer too much).

This event is hugefun and is for the whole family not just for youth.

It’s action- and fun-packed, but also includes a solid base of scouting skills.  We are aligning with the “water” theme of the national curriculum with water games, beach trips and pool parties.  There are a few weekend activities too.

Badges have in increased focus this term also: choose from the selection of sheets available from Duane or Richard (I’ll get them online soon!).  Make sure your cub has filled in the ‘completed badges’ book in the Hall so that they don’t miss out on Badge Awards night this term.

 

 

Scouts set out awesome 2012 programme

Just back to school and looking for some excitement and challenge beyond more maths and English homework?!

Check out the awesome 2012 Activity Programme for Brooklyn’s Scout section.

Lifesaving, kayaking, raft building (yes, water fights too, most likely), new leadership courses and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to get involved in the triennial Australian Jamboree 2013, and the regional Gang Show (along with Guides in the region).

Scouts meet every week at the Brooklyn Scout Hall; bring a friend – or contact the Scout Leaders to find out more, or make a comment below.
